The Need for Affordable Housing in Brooklyn is Bigger Than Ever

It is estimated that more than thirty-three percent of renters in East Brooklyn spend at least half of their total income on rent.  That means nearly 50,000 families and individuals are one missed paycheck away from becoming homeless.  In response to such alarming need, the East Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation began providing affordable housing to low and moderate income families in East New York in 2009.  To date, EBHDC has developed more than 350 units of housing and is in the process of developing of an additional 600+ units in East Brooklyn.

Creating Housing Developments with Community Conscious Partners

A critical challenge in addressing housing needs with a developer is understanding the disproportionate share of the housing stock in distressed neighborhoods. Developing partnerships is an alignment of missions between the EBHDC and its partners to see these challenges addressed.
